Pediatric Dentistry is the branch of dentistry that deals with the oral health of infants and children from birth through adolescence. Pediatric Dentists are specialized in providing comprehensive oral health care which includes repair of cavities and tooth defects, assessing risk of caries (an infectious disease), preventive home care (such as brushing, flossing, fluorides etc), counseling on finger, thumb and pacifier habits, diet and nutrition counseling, gum disease management, care for dental injuries. It is recommended to have a dental checkup within the first six months of appearance of your baby’s first tooth or by your child’s first birthday. Routine checkups need to be performed once in 3 months. Proper dental care and early detection of tooth decay may help prevent a lifetime of pain and complications.
