Porcelain Veneers alternatively known as dental veneers or dental porcelain laminates are very thin custom made shells made of porcelain or composite resin and are attached to the front part of the tooth. They are used to improve your appearance by providing a picture perfect smile. They are used to fix worn down, chipped, broken, irregularly shaped or misaligned teeth. They may also be used to fix the gap between teeth. Porcelain Veneers are stronger and durable compared to composite resin veneers and do not change color and resist stains. You can choose the color of the porcelain veneer in order to make dark teeth appear whiter. Apart from providing a natural tooth like appearance they are well tolerated by the gums and do not require extensive shaping of the original tooth to bond the veneer to the tooth. The process of applying veneers is irreversible which means you cannot return to the original condition of the tooth. On application of too much pressure to the teeth like chewing on pencils, ice or hard substance the veneer may break or chip off and is usually non repairable. Dental veneers do not require any special care apart from practicing good oral hygiene and may last anywhere between 5-10 years.
