Dental Bonding is a technique used to repair decayed, chipped or broken teeth, to improve the appearance of discolored teeth or to close the gap between teeth. A tooth – colored resin (durable plastic) material is applied to the tooth and is hardened with a special light. This binds to the tooth surface restoring the natural appearance of the tooth. It is the least expensive and easiest method of cosmetic dental procedures. Unlike veneers or crowns, this does not require manufacturing in the labs and a single visit to your dental hygienist can serve the purpose. One of the major drawbacks is that it is not as strong as crowns or veneers and may break or chip off. It is also not as stain resistant as crowns. Though bonded teeth do not require special care good oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist may prove helpful in the long run.
