“Introducing the Secret to Gentle, Quick & Painless Dentist Visits!” & How To Avoid The Biggest Mistakes When Choosing a Family Dentist…
Does the thought of visiting a dentist or sitting in a dentist’s chair make you feel weak in the knees? Do you have Dental Phobias?
Are you someone who fears dental checkups? Here’s a tiny secret that will help you to make quick, stress-free & painless dental visits.
My name is Dr. Prasad and I’m a dentist who specializes in making people feel comfortable and at home during dental visits. Many of my patients leaped for joy when they left our office for the first time because they finally felt comfortable going to the dentist!
It is a known fact that visiting a dentist regularly is so important for maintaining good oral health. And finding a family dentist you like and trust is even more important. But sometimes, even when you find someone you like, you still are not comfortable. The main reason why most people feel uneasy is the same: PAIN!
But avoiding visits to a dentist can lead to even worse situations. Dentists are able to detect tooth decay and gum disease in its early stages and device a treatment plan for you before it gets any worse. If left untreated dental decay and gum disease are nearly irreversible and might require teeth extraction.
But don’t panic, there IS a way to have a completely pain-free experience!
“The Secret to ZERO Pain during a Dental Procedure!”
Conventionally during a treatment that involves pain or discomfort, a local anesthesia would be injected near or into the area of the mouth that requires treatment. This would numb that area so that you won’t feel the pain. But I know that it isn’t the most comfortable thing especially for those who have an intense dislike for needles. (Frankly speaking, I don’t much like getting needles either!)
Apart from relieving the pain, you may feel that by using a general anesthesia you may lose entire control over the environment. If that is the case, Sedation Dentistry is an EXCELLENT option. But make sure you choose a dentist who is an expert in the field.
Sedation Dentistry or Relaxation Dentistry is a technique that is much milder, yet a highly effective alternative to general anesthetic.
With Sedation Dentistry, you remain conscious and at the same time are totally pain-free during most dental procedures.
“What Is This Amazing Pain-Free Technique?”
Sedation Dentistry is a technique in which the patient is given an analgesic (basically a strong painkiller) or a sedative that puts them into a deep, relaxed state. This is practiced by dentists and oral surgeons who have received specialized training and certification.
Sedation Dentistry medication can be administered – intravenously, orally, or by inhalation.
A little IV…
In intravenous or IV sedation (also known as Deep Conscious Sedation) the sedative is administered by way of an IV directly into the patient’s blood stream. This provides instant effect and the dosage can be altered as per requirement. Though this method is highly effective it is not very common as it requires specialized training and also since most patients are apprehensive about needles!
Inhalation of “laughing gas” (also called Inhalation Conscious Sedation) is another method of administering sedation medication and has been around for some time. In this procedure the patient is made to inhale a mixture of two gases – nitrous oxide (N2O) and oxygen (O2) – and usually falls into a light sleep. It’s a popular method since it takes effect almost instantly… and wears off almost as fast. But in case you have asthma or any kind of respiratory issues this is not recommended.
Pop a little pill…
Sedation medication can be administered orally in the form of one or two small pills. The majority of patients opt for this form of sedation. The disadvantage of this method is that it takes some time for the medication to show effect meaning the patient may need to wait in the waiting room until the dentist feels they are ready to proceed.
But as this is the most preferred method of Sedation Dentistry, I want to tell you…
“What You Can Expect With Oral Sedation Dentistry…”
During your initial consultation with me, if we decide to use oral Sedation Dentistry my office will supply you with a prescription for a dental sedative that you can get filled and bring with you to your subsequent appointment.
Then, you would be requested to come into my office an hour ahead of your appointment. This is to enable you to take the medication you were prescribed as soon as you arrive… since it usually takes an hour for it to show effect. While in the waiting area, my staff and I will keep a close eye on how you’re doing as the medication begins to take effect.
Most of the medications dentists prescribe for Sedation Dentistry – be it IV, laughing gas or oral – cause minor amnesia. This means you generally won’t remember anything beyond the first 10 to 15 minutes. This is good news for those who are scared of sitting in the dentist’s chair… you simply wake up to find that the treatment is complete.
Once you are sedated you’ll be helped into the dentist’s chair and the scheduled procedure is carried out. During the procedure you are not Actually sleeping.. You will just in a state of deep very deep relaxation. You will still be able to communicate, for example – you’ll be able to hear and respond to questions that are asked of you (although you may slur a little bit).
On treatment completion, you should have someone to drop you home.
“The Big Mistake People Make When Choosing A Family Dentist…”
Okay, now that you know the secret to gentle, pain free visits, you need to make sure you pick a dentist who can accommodate you. So how do you do that?
Refer to your local yellow pages and make a list of Family Dentists in your area.
Once in the Dentist’s office observe the environment. Make sure you feel comfortable asking them questions. Do not settle for rude or shoddy behavior from the dentist or their staff. You can also ask for permission to contact two or three past patients to find out what their experience with the Dentist was like.
Are they happy with their experiences? Did they have any complications or other problems with this Dentist? If so, how did the dentist respond?
Patient Testimonials and reviews are all excellent things to find out more about the dentist. Once you feel comfortable, go for it! DON’T PROCRASTINATE!!
